With heavy rain this morning and probably more tomorrow I knew I wouldn’t be running outside this morning. Since I felt great after last night’s workout, I decided to hit the gym early this morning and cross train, today it was on the elliptical machine.
Cross training is a great way to mix things up and keep them fresh. Have you been doing the same routine at the gym for months and are seeing few results? Maybe you need to try something different, maybe a new routine, something completely different than what you are doing.
While, Esther and I hit gym three or four times a week, we rarely do the same routine on consecutive nights. Running on the treadmill every night will get boring fast. If your workouts are boring, it’s easy to skip one, then two, before you know it you’re not going at all.
A few years ago we started cycling, using or bikes from everything from bike tours to basic transportation and it helped our running. We built stronger quad muscles and the uphill climbs on the bike made it easier to climb hills in races. With about three months of cold weather ahead, I see a lot of cross training in our future.
30 Minute Club Update – Day 12
60 minutes on the elliptical machine. I originally planned to do 45 but I felt good and went for the hour. The weather was ugly today, so I took it inside to get my 30 minutes in.
