I woke up this morning still not feeling right. When I went to sleep last night I had a hunch this cold would still be bothering me. Instead of putting on running gear, I put on a heavy jacket, and grabbed my iPod and Chico’s leash. We were going for a long walk.
Once outside I was feeling in the mood for some Bob Seeger, so it was, We’ve Got Tonight, Night Moves and Old Time Rock n Roll as we walked the hilly streets of Jamaica Estates. Although it was slow walk, Chico sniffs a lot of trees, we walked, for almost an hour covering over two miles.
It wasn’t an intense run or even a light treadmill walk, but it was non-stop motion. My goal for the 30 Minute Club is consistency, at least 30 minutes worth of motion for 100 straight days, whether it’s a 10K race, a long bike ride or a slow walk with Chico.
I met Esther at the gym after work. After a few days where my primary cardiovascular activity has been walking Chico I wanted to get a good sweat going. I let Esther pick the machine, she picked the Stairmaster — I hate the Stairmaster.
It took about ten minutes to get a good rhythm going after that it wasn’t too bad. We stopped after an hour and looked at each other wanting more. We finished up 30 minutes on the stationary bike feeling pretty good.
