Quote of the Day – “Yes, some people with New Year’s Resolutions are clogging the treadmills. Yes, some of them will quit by MLK Day. But instead of bitching and moaning about it, why not encourage them, helping them reduce the total American fat content, especially considering so many of us are looking for the same type of good words and back slapping from others about our own goals and dreams.” Dane Rauschenberg – Marathon Runner and Author
Since the weather warmed from yesterday’s frigid temperatures I ran outdoors this morning. In yesterday’s post, I mentioned I haven’t embraced the cold yet, but with a 10K race on Saturday I ran five miles on the Vanderbilt Motor Parkway Trail, aka the bike trail in Alley Pond Park wanting to simulate Central Park’s Hills. My legs were fine today, but my head was elsewhere. Starting out too fast, I fought the hills, wind and “the voices,” finishing the five miles in 47:44. I was humbled at how poorly I handled the hills, but going into a race that can be a good thing. Better to go into too humble instead of too cocky.
