Happy New Year! A New Year is a fresh start, a time of hope, a chance to look forward or to correct past mistakes, or in some cases both.
Do a quick online search and you’ll find exercise, weight-loss and food resolution programs designed to help lose those extra holiday pounds. For the next two or three weeks gyms will be full of well-intentioned individuals looking to keep their New Year’s Resolutions. While many of these resolutions start with good intentions, they will be dead before Valentine’s Day.
I don’t make resolutions — I prefer the term goals. I’ve set goals for 2012, some were alluded to in recent posts but I’ll repeat them (it’s a New Year’s Day post, isn’t that what I’m supposed to do?) A few of my goals are to regain a consistency in both activity and blog posts as well as overall life. I’d like to maintain a steady weight, I’ve repeated a cycle of gaining and losing weight for a few years now, I’d like to get it under control.
The 100 Day Challenge – I found a challenge on John Bingham’s Facebook page called the 100 Day Challenge. John Bingham, or the Penguin, as he is known to his legion of followers, is known as “the spokesman to the slow-running movement.” The 100 Day challenge is a free motivational program designed to inspire intentional movement, the requirement is 30 minutes of non-stop activity. The activity could be walking, running, exercise class, bike riding, just keep moving. I’m up for the challenge and plan a Penguin Update in blog posts.
Penguin Update – Esther and I started the New Year taking Chico for a 2.4 mile walk, which went for about an hour. We had enough time to get in a quick 30 minute run before quickly showering and heading off to Church.
Weigh-in – I weighed in at 217.4 this morning. That’s my starting point for 2012.
It’s the first day of a new year, a time for new goals, hopes and dreams. Only 366 days until the next January 1st, what will I be writing in next year’s post, I can’t say. All I can do is put one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward.
