It’s Memorial Day Weekend, the unofficial beginning of summer. Many of us will be getting together for picnics and barbeques. Before leaving home and packing the car with coolers filled with food and drinks, beach chairs and maybe a book to read, have you thought about bringing your bike.
In my last post I mentioned traveling by bike to visit friends and family, but on long-distance trips, or weekends where we are going several places we use a bike rack and our bikes with us.
If you don’t have a bike rack, you can go to your local bike store where they can set you up with the right rack for your car or truck. We have two racks, one in each car, which turned out to be helpful. During our ride to Montauk last year, they were charging $55 a bike to bring the bikes back to the starting point, by leaving my car in Montauk, we saved $110.
When we travel we always bring running gear so we can go for a quick run before breakfast. Bringing our bikes with us gives us the option of doing some local sightseeing or we might ride one of the local trails. It’s a different way to see a new place as well as getting in a light workout at the same time.
